BILLBOARD: Bruce Robison Debuts the Story-Telling New Single 'Sweet Dreams': Exclusive
4/7/2017 by Chuck Dauphin
Though he has released two well-received duet albums with his wife, Kelly Willis -- 2013’s Cheater’s Game and 2014’s Our Year -- it’s been nine years since Bruce Robison has released a solo studio album. On April 28, the singer-songwriter will rectify that situation with the release of Bruce Robison And The Back Porch Band.
Known for his artistry as a singer-songwriter, with hit recordings of his compositions coming from Faith Hill & Tim McGraw and the Dixie Chicks, Robison returns with an album of all-new original material. Billboard is excited to bring you an exclusive look at one of the set’s new tracks, “Sweet Dreams,” which features Willis. The clip was shot in their studio in Lockhart, Texas -- which is near Abilene. Robison said the song allows him to delve into one of his biggest passions: telling a story.
"I grew up in a small Texas town of less than a thousand people, named Bandera,” Robison tells Billboard. ‘'Sweet Dreams' is populated by people I knew growing up there. I remember Bandera in the '70s as a lot of loving-and-leaving stories I didn't understand at the time -- small town folks marrying young and coming up against hard times right away,” describes Robison. "The video is not a lip sync, it's us cutting the master, vocals and all love, steel guitar and fiddle together -- and the harmonies that Kelly and Warren Hood sing are perfect. I would love to hear George Strait sing this someday. I think it's right down his alley.”
Robison will tour heavily to promote the record, with dates on the schedule through April and May in Texas and Oklahoma. For a detailed itinerary, visit his Facebook page here.
